Career Services first "Workshop" Event!

Career Services hosted its’ first “workshop” event last night, Tuesday August 10th. Not Yet Placed (unemployed) 2009-2010 graduates from all 4 programs were invited to come back to campus to meet with the Career Services team and fellow graduates for refreshments.

With an exciting turn-out of 13 graduates from the MA, MBC and DMU programs, graduates participated in this 2-part event consisting of an open forum and resume writing workshop.

The purpose of the open forum was to give graduates the opportunity to share their job search strategies, successes and challenges with each other. In turn, graduates heard different perspectives about the job search, encouraged each other to try new and different approaches and had the opportunity to network and perhaps most importantly, get re-energized to continue their search.

The resume writing portion of the workshop took place in the library where graduates had the resources to open their existing resume, cover and thank you letters and receive guidance and critiques from the Career Services team.

Overall, the event was a great success and graduates have already given us feedback to confirm this: “Again I applaud you guys for stepping up to the plate. Bravo SBI Career Services Dept. It's nice to see how many students attended last night too.”- Rina S., MBC graduate.

The Career Services department looks forward to offering this type of workshop as well as others on a consistent basis in the near future.
